A trend has died silently in the night, without so much of a whimper. Denise Richards has single-handedly done a murder on the distressed boyfriend jean simply by wearing them. RIP slashy boyfriend jeans, you lived a good life.
Denise Richards.
How do trends die and why? Basically the little fellas cruise along picking up fans like you and me along the way until some big famous uncool so-and-so hops on board. Or your mum calls it "trendy"*. Or you see a rip-off version for a fiver at K-mart. Shops such as That's the end. Trend is deadybones.
Posh Spice is an awesome trend killer amongst the fashion cognoscenti. No-one can sabotage something hot and desirable like she can. Pretty much as soon as she's picked it up, you no longer have any edge**.
Posh Spice, murdering a helpless trilby.
On the other hand, Alexa Chung is an absolute deadset trendmaker. Anything she wears is hot. Something to do with autheticity. No-one believes Posh comes up with her own ideas, whereas hottie Chung probably does.

Seeing Denise Richards in these perfectly pressed slashed dreams makes me want to get out a needle and thread and stitch all my jeans back together.
That said, so long as you've made the trend your own in the first place - so it's more like "your" look than anything obviously fashion trendish - you've nothing to worry about. And isn't that the whole point of anything in our fashiony world - make it your own and you'll be safe from sabotage by celebrity trend murderers.

** mind you, she has tried her hand at shiney leggings and yet they won't die, see below.
