Oh, Australian Red Carpet events, your capacity for blandness never ceases to amaze me. Perhaps our population just isn't large enough to sustain a coterie of loveable eccentrics to liven up the fashion at such events, or maybe it is because, just like in Hollywood, with the added snipping pressure of tall poppy syndrome, most stars just aren't willing to take risks.

There were a few significant standouts, Kylie** and Danii Minogue both looked amazing, with Kylie picking an SS12 lingerie inspired frock from the perfect designer to represent her own career, some-what Aussie expat Richard Nicoll, and Danii opting for a more conservative, draped dress from Leona Edminston (thanks for the heads up on that one goes to Ashley Blackk). Kylie looked particularly saucy next to Julia Gillard, whose glittery jacket was enough to make the mothers of every bride in town hang their heads in shame.

Delta Goodrem also looked great in a Lisa Ho gown, which felt conservative until she turned to the side, revealing a generous slash of skin coloured silk that added a delicious dose of drama.

While Boy and Bear may have been the unexpected runaway victors when it came to the actual awards, the fashion winner on that front was Missy Higgins, who looked beautiful, elegant yet still her tomboyish self in a red and white lace combination from Lover.

Meanwhile, the dressed-like-a-proper-pop-star award went to Kimbra, who wore two textural, custom made Jaime Lee Major gowns, and looked absolutely wonderful in both. Sure, her black bangs had a hint of the Katie Perry, but  Perry never wears outfits which sit on the tasteful side of extreme.

As for the menswear, we really wish the Wiggles had opted for their usual colour blocked, twin styling ensembles, which would have felt far more of the moment than what they actually wore.

** Previously we reported Kylie was wearing custom Pucci. She wasn't, and for that we would like to turn ourselves in to the fashion police and face firing squad. Of course that dress was Richard Nicoll. God, what were we thinking?!
