Colourful shoes are one thing, but combine colour with a comic-like form, and the result is anime and the world of science fiction. Anime is Japanese animation and is revered for its influence on the world. The highly stylised world of anime is the basis of inspiration for many people including fashion designers.

Japanese culture is known for many things, and of course sneakers is one of them.  Fashion in Japan is well known because of the amazing book and website Fruits. Women’s footwear, in particular heels, can also be influenced by anime; a world built on imagination and the surreal.

There are two distinct styles when talking about anime style footwear. The black gothic style and the bright retro style. Compare gothic lolita with Harajuku girl.

Some of our favourite dress-up characters come from Anime. Who can forget Sailor Moon or Astro Boy? School girl chic or rocket feet power, these characters regularly influence our fashion choices.

Probably the best place to buy shoes that fit this genre, is Natacha Marro.

Natacha Marro is one designer who imagines a world where women want to take the surreal into the everyday.

The shape and height of the heel, the colourful and almost retro style prints help complete the image of a woman as an anime character.

I love the idea of embracing anime as part of your style.
