The triangle-obsessed streetwear label Vanguard was the toast of Bristown on Friday night at a graffiti covered soiree. Free champers and beer, and very strong paint fumes proved to be a deadly combination that prompted outbursts of dancing to Diana Ross’ Upside Down.

The shindig kicked off the label’s new Spring Summer collection, which included a night filled with an array of art, live graffiti and video installations that complemented the tongue-in-cheek Vanguard designs hung from the ceiling.

“We’re trying to capture a New York backstreet warehouse sort of feel. This ties in with the Summer 0809 collection which is a bit grungier than the previous collections with the use of stonewashed fabrics, acid wash denims and leather pieces” said one half of the design duo Jono Cottee.

Brisbane-based brothers Jono and Sam Cottee began printing T-shirts in 2005. Originally hailing from the Gold Coast, Vangaurd is now stocked in over 40 boutiques Australia wide and made its debut at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week earlier this year as part of the New Generation Show. The Summer 08/09 street-friendly collection ‘Washed Up’ experiments with pre-washed garments.
