Toys R Us want you to dress your children like post-apocalyptic human sacrifices

Toys R Us want you to dress your children like post-apocalyptic human sacrifices
This morning via The Cut comes the news that Toys R Us are selling replicas of the shirts Peeta, Katniss and the rest of the tributes wear during the Hunger Games' training sessions (if none of what I just said makes sense, click here).

It's rare that a film gets as much coverage on fashion blogs as The Hunger Games has, and typically, when a movie does make a splash at the silky end of the pool, it's a costume drama, or in some way directly related to the fashion. A science fiction movie about a teenage battle royale doesn't exactly fit that picture, but The Hunger Games, thanks to the way the entertainment industry that is the film's true central setting, manifests itself, is a little different.

This is a movie that doesn't shy away from luxury, and opulence in costumes, and one of the principle characters is a stylist. As a result, things like nail polish lines and a 'Capitol Couture' fashion tumblr make sense as promotional material.

That being said, given the context of the movie, a toy store selling costumes that essentially invite you to dress your children like lambs going to slaughter seems a little... creepy?

The Hunger Games opens nationally on Thursday.
