2010 was not only my first ever 'Splendour experience', but it was also my first ever 'Brisbane experience'. I did not know what to pack, so natch, I asked around.
I discovered that jumpers, layers, even gloves would be good things to have with me as I traipsed through the grass. So I scrunched six jumpers, some acid wash denim, gloves and a pair of long boots into my bag and headed off to the airport. I was ready! Or so I thought...
I can tell you right now, that it came as a complete surprise to find that Brisbane is rather pleasant at this time of year. Sunny even, and not cold AT ALL.
My jumpers were rendered useless and my boots - yes, the only pair of shoes I decided to take - made me schvitz in a way that is not ideal when only communal showers are on offer.
But it wasn't just me! It seemed a lot of people were sucker punched by the sun. It's August for Christ's sake, you knew?! But you know, we made do. Sleeves were rolled up, bandannas were purchased and the festival went on.
Good things I saw:
Vintage boots, jeans and blouses for the ladies, and some cuffed jeans to expose an indie ankle for the lads. Cute sunglasses aplenty, printed tees and a whole lot of pattern.
Not so good things I saw:
Spirit animal hats! And a lot of them. Why is this a thing?
Splendour, you were fun. Thanks for the sun and the good times, next year I'll be wise enough to pack a skirt.
