Missoni Mogul Missing After Plane Crash
Rescue teams searching by sea and air have been scouring the coast off Venezuela over the weekend in search of the plane carrying Italian fashion magnate, Vittorio Missoni and his wife.
The heir to his father's eponymous fashion brand, Missoni has been credited with expanding the fashion house - which boasts clients including Kate Moss, Katie Holmes and Nicole Richie - into a global empire comprising not only clothing but homewares, hotels and bicycles.
Missoni, 58, was travelling in the twin-engine plane from the remote Los Roques archipelago on Friday, bound for Caracas, Venezuela when, half an hour into the trip, the aircraft disappeared into the Caribbean.
Two aeroplanes similarly disappeared over the same route in 2008 and 2009.
Vittorio's brother, Luca, has headed to Venezuela while their 92-year-old father, Ottavio, who started the Missoni label in 1953, is staying with family in Italy.
Sister Angela Missoni told Italy's La Repubblica, "Our hope is that he is still alive...We want to hope, because for us it is important."
