WWD reports that the Alexander McQueen label will continue, despite the hanging death of its founder and namesake. Gucci Group, the company that owns McQueen's label, made the announcement when presenting its
2009 annual results.
That means two things for fashion lovers; the coming Paris Fashion Week show will go ahead, and a new name will get a stab at leading the design house.
Now begins the guessing game of who will replace McQueen? It will have to be someone who understands how to balance commerciality with fabulousness. How about Gareth Pugh? Or an Australian super group in Romance Was Born plus Dion Lee?
Gucci Group bought the label in 2009, and is an expert money maker. The company also owns Puma, Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Boucheron, Sergio Rossi and Stella McCartney. Since acquiring McQueen, the group has launched a sub-label McQ, collabs with Target, Puma and Samsonite and money-making perfume.
