Karl Lagerfeld is a man of many talents — fashion design, creative direction, ponytail upkeep. This week the Kaiser tried his gloved hand at editing a newspaper. The result of his one-day tenure at Paris-based
Metro is aptly headlined “The World According to Karl” and sees a self-drawn sketch of the man in question with globe-shaped sunglasses on the cover.
Metro, a free daily, is distributed in 100 cities in 22 countries and has a readership of 17.1 million. Which means that a lot of people have been burying their noses in Kaiser-curated content on the tube — and finding out what he orders at Café de Flore, what furniture he chose for his new Left Bank offices and that he thinks Michelle Obama has a “magical face”. Readers will also learn that Lagerfeld would like to be a Russian lesbian. Seriously. He writes: “If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell’s boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men.”
Lagerfeld also talks candidly about his sex drive — “No, I’m not very much interested in that. But it’s not a question of time, people can make quickies you know” — and describes singer Adele as “a little too fat,” which subsequently caused an Internet shit-storm. Lagerfeld has since apologised for that last remark, stating that his quote was taken out of context. “I’d like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer,” he said in an official statement. “Adele, she is my favourite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.”
For Spring 2012 Louis Vuitton swapped the runway for a merry-go-round, unveiling a bevy of models in candy coloured clothes perched atop plastic horses. For a short film showcasing Vuitton’s spring ’12 accessories Katie Grand teamed up with Ruth Hogben and choreographer Les Child and played around with that horsey cabaret theme. The video debuted over at
Love this week, and it’s full of swim caps, leotards and models waving giant feathers about while dancing in dangerously high heels.
Vanessa Bruno describes her latest collection as “like a futuristic Laura Ashley”, so it makes sense that the accompanying video sees muse Kate Bosworth (this is the actress’ second outing with the French designer) stumbling through deserts, crawling up the walls of a small room and walking on the moon. Much like
LØV, which was directed by Stephanie Di Gusto and shows Bosworth running backwards in fur-lined knits in an icy Norwegian landscape, this clip,
Moonlighting, is totally tripped out. The best bit is when Bosworth takes on the role of a sixties housewife, complete with small child, swimming pool, patchwork dresses and beehive hair.

Blake Lively is another American actress who has played muse to fashion designers. Last year she was the face of Chanel, and, this week, in jealousy inducing news, she’s been gifted the entire spring Christian Louboutin collection. The
Gossip Girl star described the recent additions to her shoe collection in no brainer terms: "They’re so beautiful. They’re amazing.” As for her favorite pair, they’re “these cage, crystal-encrusted shoes and one with a feather detail coming off of it.” Louboutin and Lively have been friends for a while. In 2010, the shoe designer named a pair of heels after Lively. Lively responded to the gesture saying, "I want to sleep with [them] under my pillow every night.”
