Jennifer Hawkins named Australia’s Next Top Model host for 2013
Another season of TV’s favourite model search is well underway, with the eighth – yes, since 2005, we have watched eight (local) seasons of moda-bees turn into instant B-grade Australian celebrities and Sydney club scene frequenters – Australia’s Next Top Model iteration announcing this morning, through its Foxtel broadcaster, that former-Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins will step into the coveted Sarah Murdoch/ Jodhi Meares/ Erika Heynatz spot as ANTM host. Someone get the girl a bejewelled headset!
According to a press statement, “the stunning model and hugely successful brand ambassador and businesswoman will commence filming in January on the eighth instalment of the popular reality series.”
Foxtel Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh was equally excited with the contract confirmation stating “we are thrilled to bring Australia’s Next Top Model back to Australian television screens with such a star as Jennifer. Jennifer represents everything all models aspire to be. She’s successful, popular, hard working and has truly made her mark in this country. As our new host, she will bring her own personal experience, style and brand to the series, giving the aspiring contestants a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from one of the best.”
Word on the street is that Megan Gale, Nicole Trunfio, Liz “Mrs Warne” Hurley and Miranda Kerr were all contenders for the role, but J.Hawk managed to beat them out with her extensive TV credentials – she hosted Make Me A Supermodel in 2008 (I'd never heard of it either, but apparently it’s where Victoria’s Secret Angel Shanina Shaik made her runway inception) – and effortless charm.
Of the appointment, Hawkins said, “When Foxtel approached me to host Australia’s Next Top Model I was so excited. To me, this is an awesome opportunity to be part of a iconic TV show and I can’t wait for production to start.” TBH, neither can we. Against all sense, we’ll definitely be watching, and on the down-low can’t wait for our Facebook feeds to start churning out all of the 2013 ‘Carn Montana’ appropriations.
