Fleur Wood relocates to New York
The pilgrimage to New York City is a common one for budding Australian fashion designers, but it is rare to see someone as advanced in her career as Fleur Wood go. Wood has achieved significant success with her feminine, antique ready-to-wear, sleepwear and interiors, with two retail stores in Sydney, one in Melbourne, an online store and 150 stockists globally.
As Wood's aesthetic is both consistent and steeped in vintage, it has not been necessary for her to hold runway shows for several years. While in New York, Wood intends to deepen her relationship with major multi-brand boutique Anthropologie.
Fleur Wood's husband Nick Bryant has just been appointed the New York and UN correspondent for BBC News, which is part of the reason for Wood's move.
Wood is not the only designer with eyes on the big apple, Zimmermann are eschewing Australian fashion week this year in favour of showing in New York.
