It's a well established truth that Alexa Chung, in addition to being gorgeous, possesses an almost preternatural knack for fashion. It's that, combined with her reputation for being extremely personable, that has propelled her to star status.
Chung's profile far outstrips that of other models-turned-TV-presenters. From her
recently launched Madewell line and her
British Style Award win at the BFA's, t
o the fact that Mulberry's recent, phenomenal financial success is in part attributed to a bag that bears her name, the fashionista is once again back on top.
She's even going to return to American screens with a special on thrift-store shopping, after a slightly rocky ride with MTV in the USA last year.
But you wouldn't know it from her quotes to the press. Yesterday at the French Institute-Alliance Française annual gala, she told a journalist who commented on her recently chopped locks, that the style was not a "breakup haircut" before adding: "It was inspired by my horselike face, which was looking increasingly disgusting with every inch that was added, so I lopped it off for the sake of the jawline… Hard-hitting news."
This quote came after she last week told a photographer at the BFAs “No, I can’t stand next to Claudia Schiffer for a photo — she’s too beautiful." Poor Alexa! I know you're trying to be funny, but it makes me so sad to hear you heaping on the self-hating.
This isn't the first time Chung has publicly expressed her image issues - she has explained in the past that low self-esteem and problems with body image were the reasons she ceased working full-time as a model.
Chung is known for her dry quips and quick wit. She once explained that she likes to confuse the paparazzi by standing "very still, like a human statue", so all the photographers are stuck with the same repeated image. But just incase her recent comments have more to them than just gentle self-mockery, here's a gallery of her recent fashion triumphs to show she's far from disgusting or horsey.
