Blake Lively's full campaign for Chanel Mademoiselle has just come out. It's very conservative and so polished it'd be impossible to walk across without slipping.
Lively looks amazing in it, they've paled her signature sunny skin, and rimmed her eyes with kohl, while keeping her long blonde mane just this side of tousled. She's wearing Chanel's new nail polish shade, Black Pearl, which will mean the colour causes even more of a riot than it already is.
The starlet's outfits are little and black, but Lagerfeld has done a great job of keeping the handbags as the major focus of the shoot. You can barely tell what she's wearing. Sure, the shots where she's holding the bag up are a little bit obvious, but they're almost amusingly so.
Lively's sporting the little evening bag just like any girl her age would - she's really, really showing it off, w
hich is just what she said she'd do when it was announced she'd become the face of the line.
NY Mag recently ran a story about why fashion is so obsessed with Lively right now, essentially arguing that she seems 'real' but not so 'real' she's likely to be photographed with her Mademoiselle handbag hanging open as she gets out of a car, or shipped off to rehab. She's a gorgeously safe bet.
It's the 'every girl' factor that works so well in Lively's favour. She's young, fresh and despite being preternaturally gorgeous, there is something about her that remains approachable. That her Chanel campaign is shot with a slickness that belies her age only helps to enhance this. There's a sense of a young, fun girl who is getting to play serious dress ups for the first time.
Chanel have also released a video for the bag, where it slowly flies through the air, glossy contents spilling out poetically into a black abyss. Feel free to watch it for 89 seconds before realising Blake Lively isn't in it... but be warned, I don't like quilted handbags, at all, and after a while I sort of started wanting a Mademoiselle after watching this.
