Karen Elson, the model that Jack White was lucky enough to marry, is launching an album
The Ghost Who Walks.
Possibly encouraged by Mister White Stripes, Elson has been collaborated Robert Plant in 2003 and with Cat Power in 2007. Between modelling gigs, she is also part of The Citizens’ Band, who have also let TheVine fav Zooey Deschanel sing with them.
Judging by the following Youtube clip, Elson's efforts have much in common with Scarlett Joahnsson's recording with Tom Waites. Like Johansson, Elson is very succesful in her primary career, is really really ridiculously good-looking and can succesfully string a series of words together in an adequate melody.
Scar Jo gets her moody blues on.
Zooey sings at Erdem with The Citizens Band.
Elson wrote most of the songs on her new album, demonstrating that there's talent beyond the beauty. But I must say the whole 'model releaes album on succesful husband's label' deal leaves me a little sceptical.
Of course it's preposterous to assume that Elson is a rubbish musician just because she is really really ridiculously good looking. Just look at Bret Michaels. White hot, beautiful hair and an excellent warbler. But like Bridget Bardot and Jane Birkin who came before Elson, it does seem like she got the gig thanks in part to her aesthetic rather than her oral skill.
We'll wait paitently to judge the whole record in May, but what we'd really love if she could tour
The Ghost Who Walks here in Aus and hook up an appearance at
RAFW for the spring/summer 2010/2011 collection shows.
The Ghost Who Walks, the debut album by Karen Elson will be released on May 24 by XL Recordings.
