Before their RAFW runway show, Deborah Sams and Mary-Lou Ryan were the opposite of the frantic fashion industry stereotype. The Bassike team centred themselves with a chakra balance from Aveda beforehand and delivered a soothing collection of basics in light blue cotton, buttery suede, flat shoes, coloured loose knits and denim. The calm was broken when superstar Sarah Jessica Parker called to order from the range.
"The mood of the collection was inspired by Palm Beach, by sand, and a sense of calm. We decided on jersey with a twist, all the perfect basics but with a twist, so we did yardage prints and buttery suede," said Sams.
Mouths were agape in their Palm Beach head office when SJP personally called to place orders from the range. The actress told Deborah and Mary-Lou that she needed simple pieces for her upcoming UK press tours for the film. Quite the oppostite of the jarring mixed bag of high-end labels her character Carrie wears.
However you spell it, basic Simplicity is what Bassike is all about, down to the shoes. The pointed flats in the show were developed in-house. "They were something we both hadn't seen in the market for a while that we really wanted to wear ourselves," Ryan added.
Paparazzi shots will tell whether SJP inherits the team's sense of calm on her worldwide tour. Meanwhile, the pair will be supplying stores like net-a-porter from their home in Palm Beach, otherwise known as paradise.
