“Our designs exist to reflect the integrity of a woman and resonate her unique individualism” says Gary Theodore, one half of the duo that makes up Melbourne born label Scanlan and Theodore.

That ethos of integrity and individualism, according to Gary, led the pair to work with leading photographer Nan Goldin and Model Erin Wasson, who the designers commissioned to photograph and star respectively in their spring summer campaign.

Engaging with artists and producing inspirational exhibitions and books come as second nature to Scanlan and Theodore (the label has previously worked with controversial photographer Bill Henson), so collaborating with Nan Goldin was an obvious choice.

“We thought it time to communicate how we were feeling, and looking at Nan’s work we felt we had similar values, being uncompromising, extremely considered and sometimes complex, yet having ideals of simplicity and honesty,” explains Gary. “When you look at Nan’s work, it’s simplistic at first glance but after a while the more you look the more you see, there’s a lot going on, emotionally.”

Once Nan was on board, she then chose Wasson to star and shot the campaign at a dilapidated mansion in Yonkers, New York State. The resulting images are a sensual and intimate portrayal of Scanlan and Theodore’s new season collection

“I think everything was just a perfect contradiction to put all those saturated, beautiful colours of the collection up against these grimy, peeling walls, I think it in itself told a really cool story,” says Erin.
