Vivienne Westwood sent a group of Romani Gypsy men down the runway in Milan in a show of tolerance to the much-maligned group.
The collection, inspired by the rough, gilt-edged stylings often associated with Romani men was somewhat demure, despite it's high concept theme.
The use of these models was not universally celebrated. While middle-class hearts might decry the bad rap that Romani get, Milan's ambassador for industry and fashion disagrees. In the Guardian (UK) he stated. "Westwood has a romantic notion about Gypsies that is 100 years out of date. I worked in the Gypsy camps around Milan and believe there is no chance for integration while the men play cards instead of working and the women and children steal and beg."
