Her name may be new to some, but Amelia Duncombe’s design ripples are quickly turning into waves with the release of the third collection for her label Neon Heartache. After launching just two years ago, Amelia is set to show her spring summer collection at this year’s Mercedes Benz Brisbane Fashion Festival, and can count Ruby Rose amongst her many fans.
But the 22 year old designer remains unfazed by the hype, preferring to concentrate on designing for “real people that could wear my designs in everyday life.” And while us ‘real people’ could and would happily wear a Neon Heartache piece in our day to day lives, there’s no denying her latest collection looks best when worn by a tall leggy blonde wandering the cliffs of Sydney’s Coodgee Beach.
“I usually prefer quite pale models but for the shoot we were out in the sun all day and the model Kate just kept getting browner and browner, but it ended up turning out really well,” says Amelia of the sun drenched shoot that took place at the iconic landmark.
The famous beach was the inspiration for Duncombe’s ‘The Retrospection’ spring summer collection and also played as the perfect backdrop for the label’s landscape heavy look book. Attributing architecture and scenery as a big influence in her designs, the natural and contrasting elements of Coodgee’s rocks are cleverly incorporated into the collection through various pin tucks and a clashing mix of fabrics and textures, all presented in an earthy colour palate of black, blush and beige.
