Milan men's spring summer 2009 fashion week is underway running from June 21st 2006 to June 25th 2006. Anna Wintour from US Vogue will attend, and we can expect to see shows from Vivienne Westwood, Fendi and Gucci and if you're in the trade, as many private viewings and presentations to fill a Filofax for a year.
Milan is terrifically important for the trade, while other cities such as London ocassionally have their fashion weeks overlooked by the buyers and the labels. But what most people don't know about Milan is that it is a gritty industrial city with none of the charm or romanticism of Paris or even New York. Driving into the city for the first time I was struck by the ugly apartment blocks and general dirtyness. My impression didn't improve at the major railway station where a local told me to be extra vigilant against pick-pockets.
This grit, crime and grime will not stop Europe's finest flocking to the city for a fashion feast. In fact Milan during fashion week seems to live in a dream-like place where everything is glam and your pockets remain untroubled.
So Saturday June 21st saw eleven shows including Missoni, Burbery Prorsum and Versace. Sunday June 22 threw up twelve shows incuding Vivienne Westwood, Roberto Cavalli and Bottega Veneta. Monday, the evening our time, will show eleven collections including Gucci, Dirk Bikkembergs and Moschino. Tuesdays treats will involve another twelve shows including Dsquared, Marni and Ermenegildo Zegna.
We'll bring you the embarassing and the best, along with the most random and wild sideshows.
