June is fashion illustration month on TheVine. We're bringing you interviews, profiles and retrospectives of our favourite fashion scribblers, sketchers and doodlers.
Caitlin Shearer, illustrator, artist and Karla Spetic collaborator has created five downloadable posters for you, which will be released each week until the end of the month. Shearer has interpreted favourite spring summer 2010/11 looks from Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in her own whimsically bruised watercolour style.
The first poster features a pink crystal dinosaur dress from
Romance Was Born. The dress was a collaboration with artist Bec Burnhard. Co-designer Luke Sales spotted her cardboard and fabric-coated crystals and marbled papers and immediately wanted to work with her.
"I like the idea of crystals for this collection as a prehistoric reference but struggled with the concept of crystal shaped clothing or such ridged shapes in the collection as they are completely not our style. It was more a problem solving process rather than a traditional design process as we overcame the difficulty of working the stiff cardboard crystals onto the body," said Sales.
"It's really cool and I love it. It's meant to be a crystal stegosaurus but I don't care if it looks like that or not in the end as it's beautiful, and that is all that matters in our world."
