Edward Bertouch and James St Johnson, designers of Beat Poet, won the GQ Designer of the Year award, at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards last night in Sydney.

The Australian designers were up against a slew of other established men's fashion designers, including Fernando Frissoni, Josh McPherson and Andrew Byrne of Pistols at Dawn, Sam Elsom and Gareth Moody.

Bertouch said "For GQ to support an emerging label like ours is absolutely brilliant, and quite the honor - a great end to an exciting year. We'll do our best to live up to the very generous accolade in 2010".

Earlier this year, the pair hosted an installation at Alice Euphemia, and are renowned for their minimalism and fine shirting.

Beat Poet stockists include Dobry Den, 326 Crown St, Surry Hills and David Jones nationally.
