Australians sparkle for Swarovski in Paris
In Australia, there’s nothing strange about going straight from design school to launching a label, but that’s not how they do it overseas. Internationally, it’s considered better to cut your teeth at big design houses before you strike out on your own.
That’s the path Sarah Schofield – originally hailing from Melbourne – took, and it’s working out pretty well so far. At just 23 years old, the designer is already working for Christian Dior, and she’s done significant collaborations with other houses too. Named a talent to watch by Vogue Italia, Schofield has also just been selected as one of Triple J’s 25 Under 25.
Check out Schofield’s work for Swarovski in this video, which she also styled and art directed. Starring Elite Models’ Fanny Fournier, the short highlights a gleaming mirror purse by Schofield, with Fournier playing dress-ups (and downs) with the piece in a glamorous Parisian bathroom. The film, and the behind the scenes clip that accompanies it, were shot and edited by another rising Australian talent, photographer Hana Davies.

Currently working between Paris and Melbourne, Davies’ multidisciplinary work stands out for its ability to convey (an often sexy) mood, while still retaining a strong sense of composure. You can check out her FlickR stream here. Don’t be surprised if you see her name popping up on award shortlists very soon.
