Antipodium Resort 2013 Lookbook
It takes a deft touch to turn little poo-shaped emoticons into the inspiration for a collection that could feasibly be worn to work, but if there's one thing Antipod!um's Geoffrey Finch is good at, it's taking awkward ideas and making them appealing. While the poos didn't make the final designs, plenty of other pixelated prints did.
In addition to little up and downturned thumbs, the collection features googlie eyes, Geocities bows and a cartoony colour palette of embarrassed fuchsia and smiley face yellow, but that's where the sillyness stops.
Subtly flounced skirt hems are more secretary than fishy, while the same flare technique, when employed below the back yolk of shirts and dresses, creates a wonderfully loose, breezy sense that speaks to an upbringing sweat-stained by the Australian summer.
There'll be no sweat patches forming on these generously cut backs. Elsewhere miniskirts and sporty jackets represent that "greatest hits" sense one always gets from Resort. They're simple, wearable and accessible despite their bright colours. Collars are kept petite or mandarin, while the classic flare-skirted party dress will certainly do to see a new year in, or an old one out.
Antipod!um's Resort collection is dropping into stores now.
