Protesters for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals launched onto the runway at Donna Karan's New York Fashion Week show. PETA claim the designer continues to use rabbit fur while competitor labels like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren and Ann Taylor have signed "fur free" policies.
The well-dressed protesters held up "Donna Dump Fur" signs and shouted in protest before being manhandled off the runway.
PETA President Ingrid Newkirk stated that designer Donna Karan chose profit over animal welfare.
“Animals killed for Donna Karan's designs either had their necks
broken or were electrocuted, beaten to death, or skinned alive."
PETA's website states that "Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped,
filthy wire cages, where they are exposed to all weather conditions.
They often go without clean water or veterinary care, and they are
denied the opportunity to engage in natural behaviors like climbing,
burrowing, and swimming. The intensive confinement causes many animals
on fur farms to go insane."
