Perth's boom boom

You don’t have to be good looking to be popular. You don’t have to be fashionable. As Perth knows, it’s all about the money.
Our humble city has come into some big dollars of late. Due to our skill at digging big holes and dishing out dirt that China pays lots of money for, Perth’s international stock has risen.
Money can’t always buy friends, but it sure bought Perth some fashionable ones.
Now Perth fashion followers no longer have to make the pilgrimage east in search of the holy designer grail.
As cash flows through the city like champagne through a desperate housewife, a number of well-dressed international citizens have jumped at the dollar signs pointing west.
In 2006 the cha-ching of west coast cash registers was just too alluring for Gucci, who opened the doors of its Perth store. (What they didn’t consider was that a store with delicious street frontage on two sides and $700 handbags proves a sitting target for ramraids.)
Last week Tiffany & Co followed Gucci’s Boomtown lead by opening a store of their own on the same street. Other fashion houses including Chanel, Ralph Lauren and Burberry are said to be in the process of staking out some land in Perth of their own.
Too bad money doesn’t always account for taste - CUBs aka Cashed Up Bogans have got that point covered.
But that’s a whole ‘nother kettle of F…endi.
