The other day Nick from Nike invited me to come check out the new Nike Sports Wear line aka NSW (not to be confused with the state). Nike has had some interesting higher end concepts in the past with projects such as
Nike White Label, so the question is whether or not the NSW range will be another white elephant.
After previewing the range I can honestly say it's pretty dope. Anything less from such a big name label with years of industry experience would be a farce. T-shirts aside, the technical construction that has been put into the line is amazing. There are some really well-thought-out pieces that still stay true to Nike's sporting heritage whilst utilising premium fabrics and trims.
Using timeless Nike silhouettes and appropriating modern techonologies the NSW range is all about old school style with heavy hints of modern construction. The iconic Nike hoody has added features such as taped seams (taped seams are usually found on waterproof outerwear to tape up the seams hence waterproofing them) and a felled elastic cord for the hood.
One of the defining pieces of the range is a windcheater which I have a hard-on for -a simple shell but again with taped seams and underarm holes for ventilation. If you ride you know a jacket which doesn't allow for air ends up making you as wet as the weather your trying to escape, the worst bit about it is though your wet with your own sweat. The zippers found on this jacket are bi-coloured, the sample one boasting a bright teal and yellow zip (shit if it's teal I'm already sold).
The grey hood featured comes with little extras, bright coloured taped zippers and a clever little hole on the inside of the right pocket for your earphone jack. Clever, non?
Come to think of it the REAL defining piece is the loopwheeler hoody. Loopwheeler is a process that produces superbly dope fleece, a loopwheel produces only 12 yards of fleece per day which translates to about 8 sweats per day, hence the wonderful price tag.
Being that NSW is new to the market it will be interesting to see it's longevity and influence. Nike tried a few times with skateboarding before it boomed with the SB range which has proved to be a worldwide phenomenon. Maybe this time round Nike can sponsor a FIXIE team (jokes jokes).
