Melbourne turned on the style last night with Spring Fashion Week’s first official parade. Held at the Town Hall, The Luxe Collective showcased the top tier of Australian luxury fashion, with stalwarts Jayson Brunsdon and Nicola Finetti showing their latest creations alongside newer labels like Maticevski and White Suede.

The show's standout was White Suede's joyous embodiment of spring.Unashamedly feminine, Jacqui Demkiw used silk, lace, florals and prettydetailing while her models strutted with Battenburg lace parasols. The label's most striking piece was a long-sleeved mini dress cut fromfeather-light silk. With a keyhole back and an all-over floral print, the dress embodied The Luxe Collection’s motto where beauty andinspiration collide.

Melbourne's accessory queen Christine kicked off the parade with a collection largely devoted to the exploration of black and white. With spring racing at the top of everyone’s minds, the collection included elaborate fascinators, statement jewellery and chic clutches perfect for a day on the field. Feathers are set to be big this racing season, with both Christine and Aurelio Costarella sending sumptuous feathered stoles down the catwalk.

With a palette of black, white and grey dominating the evening, Nicola Finetti invoked a touch of spring with petal-like detailing on his gowns. Worn ultra short or floor length, Finetti’s creations used contrasting fabric to create variety, without straying from the sombre palette.

Nevenka looked to the 1970s for inspiration, with a collection that was bohemian by rote. Billowy blouses tucked into pale blue flares, paisley or floral maxi dresses and broderie anglais babydoll dresses paid tribute to the hippie era without really adding anything new to the much-interpreted style.

anaya New citizen anaya ON 03 Sep 2008 02:50:20PM Can anyone tell me what's with "luxe"? I see it all the time in fashion writing it's all 'boho-luxe' or 'luxe meets fantasy' or 'industrial with a touch of luxe'... it seems to me that luxe is just another catchy word that doesn't actually describe much

AmandaC Royalty AmandaC ON 03 Sep 2008 11:03:10PM I actually thought White Suede was really predicatable and on trend with the boho-hippy look. I think the designers mainly did what they did best. I'm curious as to who supplied the outfits for Christine though... I think 'Luxe' is meant to stand for Luxury. My impression was it used because the designers mainly make dressy pieces that fit into the highest bracket price-wise.
