Sydneysiders have had theirs, Briz Vegans are in the middle of theirs. Next week it's Melbourne's turn for a springtastic fashion week.
From the 1st to the 7th of September, that' next Monday to Sunday for word people, the city will teem with parades, workshops, drinky poos and soirees. ACMI are putting on a YSL retrospective and there will be hats galore to get Melburnians ready for the spring racing carnival. Melbourne Central and the GPO are hosting some solid group shows. There will be an abundance of niche side-shows too.
The difference between the three cities' fashion festivals/weeks is that the event is ingrained in the culture of Melbourne. It's been running for 14 years for goodness sakes. Melburnians love MSFW because it reassures them that they are the most stylish people in the country.
In
Sydney, their inaugural event felt like something of an "add-on" in the busy CBD. Fashion parties were held in suit bars, which felt a little forced as city workers in polyester bustled around.
In
Brisbane right now, the media and uni students are buzzing, while models drink pre-show pots in Queen Street Mall pubs. Locals love their fashion week because it helps them prove they're nearly as cool as Melbourne.
Here are our picks for next week's reassuringly chic fashion week. Check out the full timetable of events in our
gig guide. All tickets from
