Lou Doillon French style icon

With original French sauce-pot Jane Birkin as her mum, it’s no surprise Lou Doillon is the face of French chic.
Don’t be jealous of Lou Doillon. There’s no point, in fact. I mean, how could you ever compare to the child of Jane Birkin – she of THE handbag and THAT song Je t’aime recorded with lover Serge Gainsbourg.
All we mere mortals can do is mimic her excellent style, buy some stripey tops and try to grow a saucy fringe. It’s not annoying to have a fringe in your eyes if it makes you look a little Lou.
Lou is so chic, when she was just nine years old a boutique asked for permission to use her look as inspiration for their next range. Now 25 she rocks that oh-so-frenchy mix of vintage Chanel, striped Breton T-shirts, distressed denim and loads of black. It certainly helps that she’s blessed with smoochable lips and luscious locks.
It’s not like Lou just sits around either. She actually works – bless her. She models and now she’s a designer with Lee Cooper denim where she’s whipped up a range of nifty denims including high-waisted band-leader jeans, sexy short short dungarees and a foxy dark denim pencil skirt.
Plus she’s a single mum. Lou shares a five year old son Marlowe, named after English poet Christopher Marlowe, with American musician Thomas-John Mitchell.
The French media and kind of harsh on Lou – something to do with he fact that her very existence is evidence of her mum’s affair with film-maker Jacques Doillon that ended that idealised marriage to Gainsbourg.
We won’t be quite as cruel – she’s gorgeous and talented and we’re glad for Le Birkin’s wandering eye. It means we have one more fabulous style icon to adore.
