Melbourne is home to a new mob of emerging indigenous Australian fashion designers thanks to a new project from the Koorie Heritage Trust.

A group of eight Koorie kids joined Melbourne artist Brooke at the Trust to learn how to design and make their own hoodies and the results have just been released.

Each design carries part of the maker's heritage within it, and some look like they'd make great collabs for Australian surf labels like Quiksilver or Billabong.

Grant Balcombe, 16 from Melbourne, said down for a chat with us while the other designers were modelling in a photo shoot.Balcombe's design features the words "Art is only limited to the infinite" and expresses his feeling that there is no limitation to working with paint.

"Brooke was a great artist to learn from and the thing I enjoyed most about it was expressing my own style, which was really the hardest part too," he said.

The quick course included photoshop and screen-printing. Blacombe adds "There were heaps of mess ups, lots of trial and error. But it was really cool to learn." He even feels like the course has pushed him towards a career in at and design in the future.

The Koorie Heritage Limited edition handmade hoodies are available to take apeak at from this weekend.
