The Queensland University of Technology fabric swap was held yesterday as a part of the Brisbane Fashion Festival.

The room was buzzing with fervent fashion students and Martha Stewart types eager to get their hands on the feast of fabrics lying before them.

“Usually we do clothes swaps, but we thought fabrics might be a bit different” said QUT fashion co-coordinator Dean Brough. “Often people collect fabric and don’t end up making anything from it. The swap is a chance to bring fabric back to life”.

Silks, organza, denim, chiffon, lace and vintage fabrics were exchanged after much negotiating between keen collectors. To my disappointment there were no fabric fights, as some even diplomatically agreed to cut the fabric in half to share – all in the name of fashion of course.
