Want to start a fashion label? Then sell
your record collection. That’s exactly what the creators of fashion label
Rodarte did.
Kate and Laura Mulleavy began Rodarte just
a few years ago from the family home in Pasadena,
California, where they still
share a bedroom. To push them along Kate sold her record collection, while
Laura worked as a waitress.
After heading to New
York City in 2005 and winning the Ecco Domani designer contest, the
Mulleavy ladies quickly became recognised figures in the fashion world, finding
themselves on numerous covers including Women’s
Wear Daily and US
Vogue.
The sister work as one to create their light,
romantic and meticulously designed pieces, and plan on taking their time and
getting better and better. July’s Haute Couture Week will see Rodarte paraded in the
windows of Parisian store Colette.
