The face of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is fresh-faced Adelaide gal Sally Graham, 23. Last year designer Jacqui Alexander represented the festival, in 2006 model Jessica Farrell was chosen and in 2005 we enjoyed Jessica Hart.
Graham who is just back from a lucractive working tour of Europe said "I'm honoured to represent Melbourne as the face of the festival, it's something I've waited for for a long time."
Adelaide is Graham's home town, but she says Melbourne is clearly Australia's fashion capital. "Melbourne is my adopted home and the designers we have here are amazing. Better than a lot of the stuff I have seen in Europe! They're so creative, and they're also wearable. In Europe they seem a bit safe, stuck in their old ways but here there's so much going on. Plus in Melbourne everyone is into fashion. Everyone has a bit of an opinion and makes an effort."
Following the week's festivities, Graham looks forward to heading back to Europe. "If I can get there in time, I'll head to Spain. But I love Milan too. It's a really horrible city, with onyl tiny bits of charm, but I have lots of friends there, so I have a really great time."
The four founders of fashion stores Fat – Bianca Wiegard, Kym Purtell, Sarah Hamilton and Rachael Cotra – have also been appointed as ambassadors for the festival. True fashion icons of the city, and will present a retrospective parade highlighting pieces from some of Australia’s leading designers from the last 10 years.
