We will soon find out How I Met Your Mother
After almost a legendary decade of wondering (then frustratingly resigning ourselves to the fact we “don’t care anyway”) who Ted’s (Bob Saget) baby momma is, How I Met Your Mother is set to reveal the classified information.
CBS – the network behind the Emmy award-winning sitcom – and the show’s co-creator Craig Thomas have announced that HIMYM has been renewed for its ninth and final season, set to air early next year.
According to a press release sent on Tuesday, the show’s 10 million audience members “will finally learn the identity of the ‘Mother’”, though it is yet to be confirmed whether the grand reveal will be in the season finale (think Gossip Girl) or if it’ll happen earlier on, and the plot will intertwine the big reveal in the season’s wider action.
News of the show wrapping up is not exactly shocking, with Jason Segel, who plays Marshall, very publicly looking to quit the show as per comments he made in August last year.
Alyson Hannigan, who plays Segel’s on-screen wife Lily, also reportedly wanted out after Season 8.
The show, which also stars Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor and Cobie Smulders, prepared long in advance for the show’s conclusion. According to the New York Times, “The producers even took the precaution of shooting, several years ago, the final scene with the two actors who have played the children, David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca, so they would not be near adulthood when the series ended.” How’s that for some sitcom trivia!
