Neve Campbell checks into Seattle Grace Hospital
While most of the TV-consuming population have long tuned out of Grey’s Anatomy - its abundance of implausible plotlines, inexplicable character deaths and Meredith’s crippling lack of self-awareness is to thank - there will be a few tragics (present included) excited to learn that Scream 3 co-stars, Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey, will have that primetime reunion no one was really holding their breath for in the whitewashed now-HD corridors of Seattle Grace Hospital.
The Hollywood Reporter has released first look images of Campbell in the yet-to-air December 6th episode, where she doesn’t seem to be fulfilling any doctorial duties (if you cast your mind back to 2005, you’ll remember that all of Derek’s four sisters are medical practitioners), is presumably married (she’s wearing a fat rock on her left finger) and dons a warm, sensible beige jacket which leads us to believe two things - Cambell's character, Liz “Lizzie” Shepherd, is well equipped for the show’s never-ending winter and appears far more psychologically sound than Derek’s other sister and Private Practice regular, Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone). Presumably, she also has a couple of kids, who will perhaps make an appearance in the two approaching-the-holidays episodes she's set to star in.
According to THR, “Lizzie first arrives in the closing moments of the Dec. 6 hour, titled Love Turns You Upside Down, when Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) asks intern Heather (Tina Majorino) to go above and beyond to help fix her husband's hand. Campbell will return the following week for the episode titled Run Baby Run.”
THR also makes the point that this is the third of four sisters we’ve been introduced to over the nine-season medical drama (yes, some of us have watched [see: cried] close to 200 episodes of this drivel) with “Embeth Davitz previously appear[ing] as his sister, Nancy [and] Psychiatrist Kathleen Shepherd mentioned but has yet to appear on the Shonda Rhimes series.”
While there are little more details available, one thing is for certain: there will be tears. And a very committed (sad) fan base quietly frothing.
