Kris Jenner’s “dream comes true” as the Kardashian matriarch gets her own talk show
I met Kris Jenner once. It was at the Star Casino late last year when she and Kendall came to Sydney to promote Virgin Airways/ an indigenous art book/ fake tan/ something. The most bizarre mix of products and people were scattered around The Star’s Darling Hotel, and, by far, the night was the strangest, most incongruous press event I’ve ever attended.
Though despite her black bodycon dress, that signature slightly off-centre rhinoplasty and the way she kept telling Kendall, her 1.78-meters-high then-16-year-old daughter to “work it” for a nowhere near voracious press, the Kardashian klan’s momager, really, just seemed a little tired (and nowhere near as intense as she presents herself on TV).
Fox though, is giving the 57-year-old TV matriarch to ham things up for the camera outside the confines of her endless E! Channel catalogue in a brand new hour-long “pop culture driven talk show”, set to hit American small screens this June.
Adding to the already overpopulated daytime television market, Jenner’s imminent take on the talk show – insipidly titled Kris – “will feature celebrity guests, fashion & beauty trends; plus a mix of lifestyle topics.” Working episode titles so far include ‘Sex Scandals: A preliminary PR guide and products help you through’ and ‘How to make $20 million in 72 days’. Well, not really, but given that the regular social media purveyor has been extremely tight-lipped on the project, we can only speculate.
“This is something I have wanted to do all my life so it’s definitely a dream come true!” said Jenner, who’ll also serve as executive producer, via the show’s introductory press release.
At this stage, Kris is only scheduled for a trial six week screening, and Frank Cicha, SVP of Programming at Fox Television Stations told Deadline Hollywood that his team “go[es] into this believing that if it works, the Kris Jenner program could really compliment what we’ve got going with Wendy [Williams and] Bethenny Frenkel”.
Of the consortium’s latest iteration, Fox said the show “will offer daytime viewers a daily jolt of celebrity guests, fashion and beauty trends; plus a mix of lifestyle topics – all through the distinctive and unpredictable perspective of Kris Jenner.”
Unpredictable, indeed. This is the mother of five who has been accused of selling and leaking Kim and Ray-J's sex tape to boost the status of her socialite family and, in the words of Oprah Winfrey herself, “pimping out her children.”
While the twitter sphere has responded rather unkindly to Kris’ surplus hour of airtime – “I'm glad Kris Jenner is getting her own talk show because people are terrible and deserve to be punished”, wrote @13spencer – it surely won’t be all bad! Imagine the Christmas giveaway specials – Kim’s workout tape, Sketchers, Midori and Kardashian Khroma for errrbody!
...Actually, maybe @13spencer was right.
