Jenna-Louise Coleman is the newest Doctor Who companion!
Who's saying what
DAWWW. THAT FRIGGING FACE.
...Anyway, Doctor Who casting news is always somewhat terrifying, especially seeing as how the last companion Doctor Who had (and technically still has) was, and is, a bit of an entitled space hipster. I mean, come on. When you're whisked away in a magical box with a man who is, for all intents and purposes, a god, and when that man shows you wonders which would melt the brains of lesser beings, you're supposed to be awed. Grateful. Amy Pond, however (for the most part; I'll grant you that later on she evolved past this), decided to flounce around, complaining incessantly, or belittling the unbelievably old, wise and wonderful man who was generous enough to drag her American Apparel clad and admittedly fine arse from adventure to adventure.
So it's with great trepidation that we here at TheVine unveil the new companion for Doctor Who: Jenna-Louise Coleman.
Ok, so she's gorgeous. And the rumor mill has been implying that she won't be playing a human. So… Silurian? Android? Either way, given how they veered Amy towards extreme levels of empathy, I can't see them casting Jenna-Louise as some sort of prissy hover-bot or whatever.
The Doctor tends to travel with the young or, failing that, the innocent; new companions are meant to provide The Doctor with the chance to redefine himself, as well as to provide newcomers to the show eyes through which to see, enjoy and, hopefully, become utterly infatuated and obsessed with The Doctor. This is why Amy was such a poor choice; after the first two episodes, she slipped into vacuous bint mode. Hopefully miss Coleman brings us back to a fusion between doe-eyed and awestruck (think Leela) and unswervingly capable (think Romana).
Either way, she won't be appearing until the 2012/2013 Christmas special, so you're probably going to have to calm down until then. So what do you think? Based solely on her appearance, her acting chops and the fact that the key players behind the scenes have her back and respect her work, how do you think she'll do?
Also, do you enjoy trailers? Because yesterday, the BBC released the teaser trailer for the next season of Doctor Who. I, for one, am turned on right now.
