Never laugh at your own jokes. I learnt that code of conduct very early on, in the dog-eat-dog suburban playgrounds. But when it comes to the finest people working in entertainment, that rule goes straight out the window. It seems we just can't ever get enough of when a comedian, actor or otherwise loses their straight face in 'the moment'. The veneer of character drops away for a brief second, and the real person within becomes wonderfully apparent.

Sometimes, it's funnier than it should be. Other times, it's funnier than the final cut. But, all the time, it brings the world of distant celebrity down to a much more natural and endearing level.

Here are just some of the best bloopers, out-takes and on-set shenanigans plucked from an endless ocean of gold - if your favourite ain't here, feel free to share the love.

10. Tim and Eric Awesome Show
Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim and Zac Galifinakis might just have to be my first choices for 'dream dinner party' guests. No Absolut allowed though.

9. Death Proof
Keen Tarantino fans will enjoy watching from the very beginning of this clip. But otherwise, tune in from the 2.15 mark instead... Hi, Sally!

8. Inglorious Basterds
Segue into a little more Tarantino. The 'clapper' on the set of Inglorious Basterds brought a highly unique approach to her job. The subtle reactions of the cast - as they try to remain focused on the scene at hand - are just lovely to watch.

7. 30 Rock
I've never seen 30 Rock. I really want to. But we just never seem to co-ordinate our comings and goings. I have, however, seen these out-takes and I wholeheartedly approve.

6. Curb Your Enthusiasm
It might just be me, but there's something so unexpected and disarming about watching Larry David properly laugh.

5. Back To The Future
If you don't already want to hug the shit out of M. J. Fox every time you see him these days, wait until he takes an unsuspecting swig from a bottle of whiskey on the set of BTTF.

4. Arrested Development
The funniest show in television history actually just got funnier. And a lot more sweary.

3. The Office
If you ask me, Ricky Gervais and the original The Office, scaled (if not set) the highest heights of comedy across any form. A fact which is even more remarkable once you realise that Ricky must have ruined 90% of all takes by constantly cracking himself up.

2. Extras
More Gervais. Or, more specifically, a little Patrick Stewart. From potentially the greatest Extras scene of all, here, one of the finest dramatic actors in British history is "reduced" to comedic brilliance-slash-absurdity - again and again, and again.

1. Will Ferrell
I don't know who invented the blooper reel, but it's been Will Ferrell who has made the medium his own. Not enough to just single out any one of his movie's out-takes, here is a joyous mash-up of them all.
