You could add the Coen brothers' "A Serious Man" to this list, also. Apparently the script is an exercise in quantum mechanics.

Giuseppe is right. I still don't know what the hell happened in that film. Also, Blue Velvet has baffled me for many years.

I second that Shabbadu.

I had to watch 12 Monkeys three times to understand it. Even now I can't remember the plot, guess I have to watch it again.

I know people often say "Read the book!", as if it's reasonable for a film to require paperwork and study. But in the case of "2001", it really does make the movie's ending incredibly easy to understand. Also, Zooey Deschanel's mum played Bowman's wife in the sequel, 2010, and was a laughably terrible actor :)

Has anyone seen Enter The Void (Soudain la Vida) it was at Cannes a few years back. I don't think it got a commercial release many places outside of France, probably because its running time is anywhere between 2 - 2.5 hours and is directed by Gaspar Noe. But it was definitely up there with many of the titles featured in this article. Also I think you could add the other Richard Kelly film to this list: The Box.
