Sales of ear plugs and double-glazed windows have no doubt soared since Sony's first SingStar climbed the charts to become the hottest home karaoke game around. Party Hits is the 13th song collection to be released, and with SingStar about to debut on the PS3, it could be a sign that the party might finally be over for the PS2.
This collection of 30 songs spans almost three decades of pop music, making it a good choice for budding vocalists of all ages. Older players will want to test their warbling vocal chords against David Bowie, Elton John and Toto, while hip youngsters can choose from Operator Please, Thirsty Merc, the Veronicas and Rihanna. There are even a few tragic songs from the 1980s, such as Mel & Kim's 'Respectable'.
The songs come with their original video clips but you can display yourself on the TV if you have the PS2's EyeToy camera. Friends can sing together or go head-to-head to see who is better at holding a tune, as the game rates you on phrasing and pitch.
This is very much a no-frills release, and more songs would have made SingStar feel like better value.
