MEET THE FEEBLES (1989)
Director: Peter Jackson
South Gate Entertainment
Before Peter Jackson tackled Tolkien and probably just after he got off the Dole, the bearded genius of New Zealand film made Meet the Feebles.
The Muppet Show was all about positivity, kindness, fellowship, Kermit the frog and whatnot. Meet the Feebles is the bi-polar opposite, a darkly misanthropic satire of vice, pornography, death, negativity, drug dealing, back-stabbing and downright cussedness.
The characters are a motley animal theatre group who are putting on a televised variety show in the hopes of being picked up. The only problem is that everyone’s eccentric quirks, addictions, malice and dark secrets are about to simultaneously detonate with hilarious consequences.
Meet the Feebles is a gut-wrenching romp played by a cast of the most perverted, deranged and disgustingly endearing puppets of all time.
Forget "fanning-out" over The Lord of the Rings trilogy and gushing about how many times you watch it whilst fawning over your overpriced expanded special edition box-set with 50 hours of behind the scenes footage and other such poppycock. That stuff is for fricken’ geek-burgers and grown men who play World of Warcraft.
Meet the Feebles will make your peeper’s fall out of your skull, turn your brain into rotten black jelly and you’re gonna’ love every minute of it.
Jim Henson would turn in his grave.
