As one of this year’s most anticipated movies, The Hunger Games has amped up its publicity theatrics and debuted a second highly cinematic trailer, just over a month before the feature-length film hits cinemas.
Having been likened to the Harry Potter and Twilight series’ (a comparison that necessitates a thesis on its own) the second trailer, released just a few hours ago, says so much and yet still, so little.
The second preview instalment offers more insight into the unwavering bond of sisters Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Primrose Everdeen (Willow Shields); the depthless, emotional wasteland that is Panem (watch out for outfits so decisively tacky they put Toddlers and Tiaras to shame); Elizabeth Banks’ petrifying depiction of she-devil Effie Trinkett alongside the nightmarish President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in an extended evocation of The Reaping; and of course, a tiny taste of some arena activity complete with blazing fires and glimpses into an ominous yet intensely beautiful natural setting.
Most poignantly, the trailer ties all of these interactions through the motif of The Mockingjay Pin – a symbol of rebellion, resistance, communication and hope.
Go on, feed your post-apocalyptic appetite:
Based on Suzanne Collins’ insightful dystopian fiction, the science fiction action drama, directed by Gary Ross, airs in cinemas on March 23.
And, indeed as the trailer promises, “The world will be watching”.
