After the phenomenal success of Twilight, it seems as though all is not well in the Cullen household. According to recent reports the movie’s director, Catherine Hardwick, has been unceremoniously fired with experienced filmmaker Chris Weitz (American PieAbout a BoyThe Golden Compass) taking the reins for the sequel New Moon.

Twilight wasn’t the best film of the year but it was enjoyable enough thanks to some great casting. Apparently, the heads of Summit Entertainment were quite displeased with Hardwick’s efforts and believe the film was only saved in the editing room. Although the official word is that the dismissal was mutual due to a scheduling conflict.

Whatever the reason the drama continues as MTV.com has reported that Taylor Lautner who played the Native American character Jacob Black, might be the next to get the chop. As the sequel demands a larger role for the character it seems the new director is after a more established name. Weitz’s first choice appears to be Ben Barnes of Prince Caspian fame.

New Moon is being fast tracked and has already received a release date. Therefore, I recommend you to steer clear of your local cinema on 29 November 2009 unless you want to be at the mercy of a stampeding horde of lustful teenagers.
