Trailer for “Jack the Giant Slayer” is released
The film Jack the Giant Slayer is purported to be badass revision of the children’s fable, “Jack the Giant Killer” (apparently very similar to “Jack and the Beanstalk”)—and thus forms part of a slew of recent feature films that rework classic fairytales, injecting them with fresh faces, plot embellishments, cheesy cracks and more fantasy CGI than you could poke a stick at.
From the trailer, this latest offering from Bryan Singer looks to be no different, and is replete with swooping shots, lots of mist, giants’ faces in varying degrees of aggravation, and shots of a damsel in a barky cage. This time, the hero with whom we are supposed to identify is played by Nicholas Hoult (i.e. Tony from Skins), who has fast been adding action titles to his name, having also recently starred alongside Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. In this film, he is joined by Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy and Stanley Tucci, with leading lass Princess Isabelle played by Eleanor Tomlinson.
If nothing else, the trailer looks entertaining, and certainly pitch perfect for the audience of 12-18 year olds at which it is undoubtedly aimed. The film’s US release date is set for 1 March 2013.
