The ten best movie mullets
Who's saying what
Cinema has produced some of the most astounding interpretations of the mullet and most of them seem to be on the head of Jean Claude Van Damme or Patrick Swayze. It’s easy to look back at the ridiculous gravity defying hairdos and laugh but they seemed pretty darn cool at the time. Interesting fact, in Italy mullets are known as “alla McGyver” thanks to the iconic style of Richard Dean Anderson.
In honour of this abomination of a haircut, we have compiled a top ten list of the best mullets in movies. Their choice of haircut is forever preserved in celluloid as a reminder of how unfortunate fashion can sometimes be.
10. Danny Cooksey in T2
Whom you may ask is Danny Cooksey? Well he is John Connor’s mullet-headed best friend with the rarest of all beasts: the red-haired mullet. I would argue this constitutes child abuse.
9. Kiefer Sutherland in The Lost Boys
As you can tell by the clip, everyone in this film has a mullet but it is Kiefer’s spiky nightmare that triumphs above the rest. He’s come a long way.
8. Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China
Kurt Russell stuck to his mullet for most of the eighties but it reached its zenith in this film.
7. Ewan McGregor in Star Wars Episode II
What the hell Lucas?? Star Wars characters didn’t have mullets in the '80s when it would have been acceptable, but they do now? Wrong.
6. Sylvester Stallone in Rambo III
Surely it would have been easier to get a crewcut than maintain this mane in the middle of desert combat.
5. Mel Gibson in the Lethal Weapon series
Possibly the first sign of Gibson’s impending descent into madness…
4. Matt Stone in Orgazmo
I know it’s a wig and might not count but I still think it’s one hell of a mullet.
3. Jean Claude Van Damme in Hard Target
The irony is that he has really short hair throughout the '80s and decided to grow a mullet in the mid nineties.
2. Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse
The man was dedicated to the hairstyle and sported glorious variations over the course of the '80s.
1. Billy Mitchell in King of Kong
Those who have seen the excellent King of Kong will appreciate the glory of this man’s mullet. The testament to his greatness is that he has had the same mullet for over two decades. Even Bon Jovi eventually cut his hair. Watch the clip and then rent the movie, highly recommended.
