Monty Python stars sued over “Spamalot”

The producer of Monty Python And The Holy Grail, Mark Forstater, is suing the British comedy collective over profits owed from the spin-off Broadway musical, Spamalot.

The producer of Monty Python And The Holy Grail, Mark Forstater, has recently filed court proceedings against the British comedy collective, alleging that he is owed profits from the film’s spin-off Broadway musical, Spamalot. Apparently, an agreement made in 1974 guarantees that Forstater is entitled to one-seventh of any profits gleaned from the film or any associated products or productions—that is, including Spamalot. Forstater’s laywer Tom Weisselberg claims that although the correct payments were made up until 2005, since then, Forstater’s cut has been reduced to one-fourteenth.

Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Jones appeared in court in London on Friday, and are expected to testify this week. Forstater claims he is owed about $400,000.
