Madonna's 'Truth or Dare' commercial is released, then banned
Last Thursday witnessed the release of the video for Madonna’s new perfume, 'Truth or Dare by Madonna'. Somewhat predictably, Madge is seen writhing around and pressing herself against mirrors swathed all the usual suspects: a darker take on the 70s leotards of 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor get a look in, as does a blinged-up cross necklace, black fur and a harness.
But only a day after its internet leak, the internet’s all a blither with the news that Disney owned American TV station ABC has issues with the commercial, claiming it is ‘too risqué’. According to the New York Post, ABC executives instructed that the ad be modified so that more of Madge’s bust and bum are covered. They also want to cut the writhing all together, which should come as sad news to any Madge fans with any awareness of the key place of writhing in Madge’s dance move oeuvre.
Even if the suggested modifications are made, the station has confirmed that they will only be running it after 9pm, or during daytime show, The View. Silly though the clip may be, it seems nothing can escape the long arm of Disney when it comes to suggestions of sex.
