Studio Ghibli films are the best. They're beautifully animated, filled with heroic female characters, and involve big adventures, childish innocence and virtuousness. They're the best.
The latest is based upon Mary Norton‘s children’s novels
The Borrowers, in which tiny people hide from the humans they secretly co-exist with and borrow their things. Simple things, like a pin, which to them becomes a sword. Master animator and Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki has adapted it, and his protege, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, has directed it.
The titular character, Arrietty, is a 14 year old girl who, one night while borrowing, gets seen. Will this threaten her family's safety? I don't know, you'll have to wait and find out.
Disney have released the first trailer for the English-dubbed version. Listen closely and you'll hear the voices of Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Carol Burnett, David Henrie, Bridgit Mendler and Moises Arias.
Arrietty will screen in Sydney and Melbourne as part of the 15th Japanese Film Festival.
