Avatar sequel now expected in four years

Avatar sequel now expected in four years

Who's saying what

This sucks! But on the bright side. Alien (1979) -> Aliens (1986) = 7yrs. Terminator (1984) --> Terminator 2 (1991) = 7yrs. Avatar (2009) --> Avatar 2 (2016) = 7yrs. Good things come...

As soon as it became clear that James Cameron's 3D masterwork, Avatar, was a mega hit (to date it's grossed $2,782,275,172 - yes, you read that number correctly), wheels were put in motion for a cinematic return to Pandora. Fox were so impressed with Cameron's work that they donated a considerable amount to his green fund, for which he agreed to be tied up until at least 2015, to allow work to begin straight on the films.

Cameron's been busily working away on technology to improve the already pretty amazing technologies that he more or less invented to make the first film, promising us a pair of sequels that will - among other things - reportedly explore the oceans of Pandora (Cameron is a keen diver and submariner).

Well, the sequel that was initially planned for December 2014 has now been pushed back. Quite a way back, it turns out. So sayeth producer Jon Landau, who - speaking at a preview screening of the Titanic 3D conversion - says the first sequel is "four years away".

So, if you've been busy practising your Na'vi for the first sequel's premiere, at least you'll get another two years to perfectly finesse your "Oel ngati kameie".
