Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise role as Conan the Barbarian
Who's saying what
Deadline has recently reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role as Conan in a film entitled, The Legend of Conan.
Schwarzenegger’s return to the franchise at this late stage in his career as an action star seems only fitting in light of the fact that it was Conan the Barbarian that launched Schwarzenegger to superstardom back in 1982. Apparently, the purported plot of Legend of Conan will depart from where the first film ended, skipping over the content of both the 1984 sequel, Conan the Destroyer and the recent 2011 Conan the Barbarian remake starring Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa.
One of the producers, Fredrik Malmberg, explains during the Deadline interview, “The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make [...] It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.” Speaking of Schwarzenegger, he says: “This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life, and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story.”
Universal wants the film for mid-2014.
